Program Description
The Commercial Truck Driving Certificate
program is a sequence of courses designed to prepare students for
careers in commercial truck driving. Learning opportunities develop
academic, technical, and professional knowledge and skills required
for job acquisition, retention, and advancement. The program emphasizes
specialized training in the fundamentals of CTD, basic CTD operation,
and advanced CTD operation which focuses on developing driving skills.
Each student must receive a minimum program total of 44 hours of
individual behind-the-wheel (BTW) instructional time; at least 12
hours must be spent on the range and at least 12 hours must be spent
on the street/road for each student. The remaining 20 hours may
be used in any combination of range and street/road BTW time. Note:
State law requires that, whenever a vehicle is operated on public
roads, an instructor must be present in the truck while a student
is driving.
