| Georgia Fatherhood is a program designed
for the non-custodial parent of dependent children who has been
ordered to pay child support and who is either unemployed or underemployed.
The mission of the program is to place the non-custodial parent
in job training that will lead to gainful employment.
The goals of the program are to:
- Raise awareness of the important role that fathers have in their
children’s lives.
- Help overcome the problem of non-payment of child support and
therefore reduce the burden of the tax payer for welfare services
to children.
- Eliminate barriers so that at-risk non-custodial parents can
obtain the counseling, education, training, and job placement
needed to obtain stable employment.
The program assists participants in a variety of ways including
career assessment and testing, counseling, job readiness and job
search workshops, life management workshops, and skills training.
Participants may enroll in any certificate, diploma, or degree program
at Valdosta Technical College for which he or she is qualified.
